Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman, was the third child of the family. When she was a young girl, Roman's father, a carnival barker, passed away, which caused her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to be a waitress or cleaner to help them be able to survive. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She was a student in the area. She quit the school she attended just two years later in order to pursue the profession of acting. Her path wasn't without its challenges. While in New York, her first job involved posing stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed to do was abyssal. She then worked as the hat checker in a night club before calling the shots and moving back to Boston. There she made a buck working as an usherette during the day, and at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first role as an actor. In addition, she was a drama student and ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
